| CAMHS is the child and adolescent mental health service in Surrey. We exist to promote emotional well-being and deliver preventative mental health services and treatment to children and young people with mental health problems. |
 |
CAMHS is a partnership between Surrey County Council, Surrey’s Primary Care Trust, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and voluntary organisations.
What do we do?
We work in many different ways with young people, depending on their needs.
- We support teachers, youth workers and people working with young people by offering them support and training on how to spot mental health difficulties. We also offer them advice about how to create an environment that helps to prevent emotional difficulties developing.
- We employ specialist mental health workers to work with children and young people with mild or moderate mental health difficulties. These professionals can also support you.
- Our psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers and community nurses provide more specialist services. These professionals work with children and young people with complex mental health difficulties, as well as supporting you.
- We also work with and support children and young people who may need very specialist treatment, which could involve hospital care.
Infant mental health
The Parent-Infant Mental Health (PIMH) service is a specialised service that aims to ensure every child has the best possible start in life; this is achieved by offering early intervention to parents who are identified as being at risk of poor attachment with their infant. The service is a Surrey-wide initiative and is funded and delivered through the partnership of community health, CAMHS, early years and social care. The service also offers a five week infant massage group which is therapeutic and also helps to improve relationships between infants and their parents or care givers.

Input from children and young people
We involve children and young people in the development of our services. They get involved with consultations, training, recruitment and undertake a variety of projects to ensure their voice is heard throughout the service . CAMHS has a designated Participation and Rights Officer who supports participation, and provides and advocacy service to children and young people who use CAMHS.
