We are here to help you. Coming to CAMHS for the first time can be confusing, and you might not know what to expect. Some children think coming to CAMHS means that we will tell them off, we will be really strict, or tell other children everything they said.
Don’t worry, the only reason you are coming to CAMHS is because we want to try and help you feel better. We understand that you will feel nervous and maybe a bit scared, so we will try and make you feel as relaxed as possible.
When we first meet you, we will want to get to know you, and find out what life’s been like for you and what is making you feel the way you do. This will help us to work out the best way to help you. We will ask you how you feel about things like friends, family and school.
Usually we will ask you to come to CAMHS with your parents or carers, but everyone is different.
CAMHS doesn’t always mean that you are seeing someone in a clinic, sometimes you can see someone from CAMHS at your school, in a pupil referral unit or at your home.
The important things to remember are:
-
we want to help you feel better
-
we won't tell anyone you don't want us to
-
lots of children come to CAMHS for many different reasons.
